Don’t Let Guadalupe Be One of Trump’s First DeporteesGuadalupe García de Rayos is a mother of two who came to the US when she was 14 years old. Nine years ago, Sheriffs carrying out an unconstitutional raid led by Arizona’s Arpaio arrested her for working to support her family. She spent six months in ICE detention before being released to her family, but now, she’s being called back in by federal agents. This week, Guadalupe faces possible deportation due to Trump’s new declarations calling for the immediate removal of all people with charges regardless of circumstances. Guadalupe and her family are facing the reality that she may soon be separated from the children she has worked so hard to support. Angel, 16, and Jacqueline, 14, grew up with the fear of Arpaio's racially motivated reign and although a federal judge declared Arpaio’s raids unconstitutional, ICE agents still may attempt to separate this family. Her community is rallying around her and is asking you to do the same. https://youtu.be/ZNeae3RQJsI8,128 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.

Tell Mayor Greg Stanton to Defy Trump & SB1070, Stand with Guadalupe, Create Real ProtectionsLast night, in front of her own family, Phoenix police helped federal deportation agents deport Lupita García de Rayos. Mayor Stanton made a statement in opposition but needs to put his words into action. Phoenix police are among the most violent in the country and actively profile Black, Latinx, and migrant communities. We are asking Mayor Stanton to put his promise into action starting with putting an end to Operation Order 4.48, a Phoenix PD order that mandates and cements ICE/Police collaboration and that is dripping with racial profiling language. We ask that he lead by example and not be intimidated by Trump nor the racist proposals of the AZ State Legislature currently being considered to increase law enforcement, further criminalize immigrants and punish sanctuary cities. Lupita was deported because Sheriff Arpaio criminalized her in an unconstitutional raid. Many more Phoenix residents will face the same fate unless Mayor Stanton transforms police practice in our city. Mayor Stanton needs to know that we won't let him bend under Trump's pressure and that the people in Phoenix are who he needs to be listening to in order to create real safety in the city. Phoenix Students Demand Police Officer be Fired after Pepper-Spray and Handcuffing of 6th Grader! The community asks for accountability and demand the following: DEMANDS: 1. We must hold both Principal Robert Miller and Superintendent Ventura accountable and demand transparency they must release a statement about the incident with the SRO and not ignore the impact it has caused students, teachers and concerned parents. 2. School must remove School Resource Officer Philip Vavrinec from school grounds. Isaac Middle School must change the culture of how we deal with conflict in Isaac Middle School by adding more counselors to help students on campus. 3. When we say, cultura not cops, we mean more ethnic studies programs, more teachers and counselors that have critical consciousness and the cultural competency training to empower and support students in order to create a well rounded learning environment. 4. We want an independent investigation of civil rights abuses at Isaac Middle School by School Resource Officers.578 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.

Demand Sheriff Penzone Shut Down Tent City, End Arpaio’s Reign in Maricopa CountyThis past November, Maricopa County voted Sheriff Penzone into office but we still need to remove Arpaio's impact. Since 1994, Arpaio punished people in the outdoor jail where inmates said that dogs were treated better. In the summer, Arpaio told reporters that it reached 145 °F inside the tents. Some inmates complained that fans near their beds were not working, and that their shoes were melting from the heat. In the winter, it's the opposite. Sign to ensure Tent City is closed forever and urge Penzone to set an example to do what is right for the people in Maricopa County. Arpaio will not be completely gone until his policies of dehumanization and abuse are gone with him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fj3mRGQ0ow67 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.

Phoenix Might Pay More for Police in Schools than Teachers, Sign to Stop ItWe are urging you to take a position against SB1099, a terrible anti-youth legislative proposal that is currently being considered by the Arizona State Legislature. Bill SB1099, the School Safety Program Bill, directs the Arizona Department of Education to prioritize grants for school resource officers (SROs) and juvenile probation officers in schools within communities with “high crime rates.” This will result in more police officers being placed in black/brown schools, which will increase the arrests of Black and Latino students on campus—feeding the school-to-prison pipeline. The past two weeks of Trump’s presidency has shown us that many of the communities represented by our school youth population are at risk of being further discriminated, criminalized and even deported. It is your political and moral responsibility as a school board to ensure that the students you service are safe instead of making school environments more hostile by heightened police presence. Currently we have a crisis in education. In 2016, our state systematically chose to cut education by $21 million while allocating $17 million for a project to increase beds at Eloy private detention center. A safe school is a school that has enough teachers, enough books, school programs like art, music, and other character building activities that will create whole and healthy adults which in turn creates safe communities. A safe school cannot be defined by over-policing. Phoenix Union High School District does not need police officers. Advocating for more SRO's on campuses is the wrong answer to solving disciplinary issues with young people that need intervention based on love and guidance. We must go beyond solutions that are about police. Studies have shown that even accounting for all other variables, that the mere placement of an SRO on campus increases the arrests made on that campus five times more probable. Sign this petition, and say YES to safe schools that promote creativity and so NO to incarceration.289 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.

DON'T TRANSFER ABUELA PATY TO ICE!When President Obama issued his executive order for immigration reform on November 20, 2014, Paty was one of the millions who was eligible for relief through the DAPA program. She is the mother of five US children and six US grandchildren, with a seventh on the way. While DAPA was held up in the courts, the President's Priorities Enforcement Program (PEP) began ripping apart thousands of lives by zeroing in on deporting migrants with misdemeanors such as DUIs. Paty is a integral figure in the Phoenix community and a pillar of her family. She's been building a life in the US since 1980, when she came here as a teenager. Now Paty's daughter desperately needs her mother by her side as she prepares to give birth to her child any day. Paty's grandchildren need the love and care of their abuela. Despite this being her first and only arrest, Paty could be deported for a DUI she received after being pulled over by the Phoenix Police Department for a broken tail light. Paty is bravely and responsibly completing requirements for her DUI by turning herself into Arpaio's jail. Help us tell ICE she belongs in her community, not in a detention center. Tearing Paty away from her kids and grandkids doesn't only harm Paty, it destabilizes her entire family. Watch the video of Paty preparing to go to Tent City here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xi9w0FDdNE Please sign below to stop Paty from being separated from her family and community!1,013 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.

Request for Prosecutorial Discretion, Parole from DetentionRuben Iribe Beltran came to the US in 1990 from Mexico. In 2006, Ruben developed an infection in his toe from a sliver he got while incarcerated in Beaumont, Texas. Due to poor medical care, the infection caused Ruben to develop gangrene in his toe, resulting in the amputation of his leg. He was given crutches to walk with, but broke his hip from a fall soon after receiving them. In May 2015, Ruben was transferred to Kromes Detention Center in Florida. He suffers from, among other things: hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, and type II diabetes. Despite being made aware of these issues, Kromes has been unable and unwilling to provide proper medical care for him, including providing dialysis. Ruben was told that if he could find the dialysis treatment he needs in Arizona, he would be released on parole so he could access the treatment. Now, Kromes has gone back on their word. Despite finding a dialysis treatment in Arizona, they are refusing to let Ruben be released on parole, saying there is already a deportation order coming from Washington for Ruben and he will be deported any day. His health is deteriorating rapidly- most recently he had part of his big toe removed after developing blisters and an infection. Aside from dialysis, Ruben needs prosthetic bandages, disinfectant alcohol, prosthetic socks, and a wheelchair that fits his body. He has been denied all of these items and forced to wear the same soiled socks he wore upon his arrival 14 months ago. His medical needs and the detention center's violations go on. Ruben needs urgent care, not the cruelty he is being treated with by the detention center guards. The longer he is held in detention, the greater the risk for infection and the more rapidly his condition will deteriorate. Please sign to support prosecutorial discretion for Ruben and his parole from detention.241 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Puente A.
