Not all women have pussy's, not all pussy's are pink, Pussy Hat Project!

Not all women have pussy's, not all pussy's are pink, Pussy Hat Project!

The Pussy Hat Project states that their goal, per their website, is to create, " a sea of pink hats at Women’s Marches everywhere that would make both a bold and powerful visual statement of solidarity." This is great, only, not all people with pussy's are women, not all women have pussy's and not all pussy's are pink. In other words, not all women are white cis women; some men have pussy's. This petition asks the coordinators of the Pussy Hat Project to acknowledge and correct this oversight by 1) representing the rainbow spectrum of pussy's on their website and ask knitters and yarn stores to use/provide yarns that represent all women, including trans and gnc women, and 2) we ask that you change your project logo: a pink pussy hat covering the earth. White, western women with pink pussy's are not the saviors or harbingers of global women's liberation. We urge you to reconsider a new logo that takes into account for all women - those with pussy's and their many colors and those without pussy's.

You can start by:
1. updating your website and send an email to the list of march events and individual supporters, with a message that asks people to knit hats from yarns that are shades of brown, purple and gradient colors;
2. post a message on social media, ask folks to do as much.
3. acknowledge that not all women have pussy's and not everyone with a pussy identifies as a woman.

As mentioned on the Pussy Hat Project website, the pussy hat has become a "simple means of protest, participation and solidarity" which, "has become an iconic global symbol of political activism." Please take yet another STEP this year by expanding the narrow view of "pink pussy hats" to catch up with the diverse, multi-racial reality of women everywhere.

Why is this important?

We are in a cultural and political moment when it is critical that we not reify or essentialize "women" as pink pussy owning (cis white women). Doing so threatens to stall a growing movement about broad definitions of gender, identity and orientation, placing trans and gender-nonconforming women and women-identified people at legal, social, political and physical danger.
