Town of Cicero should pass a Welcoming Cicero Ordinance w/ no Exceptions

El 14 de mayo a las 9 am, testigos filmaron a la policía del Town de Cicero entregar a alguien a la migra (ICE). Según las declaraciones anteriores del Town de Cicero, Cicero no colabora con la migra. On May 14th at 9am, witnesses filmed the Town of Cicero police hand someone over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to previous statements by the Town of Cicero, Cicero doesn’t collaborate with ICE. That is the justification that they gave when they refused to sign into a law a Welcoming Cicero Ordinance, which would prohibit this type of collaboration.

Under Trump we are seeing an increase in ICE raids in our communities. Municipalities like the Town of Cicero have no reason to be enforcing immigration laws or collaborating with ICE. By doing, so they are helping to separate our families and communities.

The name of the individual that was detained is currently unknown and the reason for his arrest in the first place is not relevant. We know that ICE and localities lie about people’s backgrounds in order to justify their deportations. We, as Cicero residents & neighbors, demand that the Town of Cicero:

1. Pass a Welcoming Cicero Ordinance that protects all Town of Cicero residents with NO EXCEPTIONS
2. Meet with the Welcoming Cicero Coalition (which includes organizations like Ixchel) to draft and implement a Welcoming Cicero Ordinance
3. Be transparent with Cicero residents and disclose information on how many people they have turned over to ICE
4. Provide Cicero residents with information and resources about how to protect themselves from ICE
