Free Rudy!

Rudy is currently being held at the Northwest Detention Center. He is one of our many Free Them All campaigns. Take action and help sign his petition to FREE RUDY!

“What does freedom mean to me? With almost a decade spent incarcerated I dream of the right to express myself. In the hollow walls of the detention center they try to suppress our expression and individuality. Instead we gather ourselves and become stronger. Much of my life has been difficult decisions and even more difficult answers. Growing up in El Salvador, I was surrounded by individuals with strong gang affiliation. While I never chose to join myself, I was dragged into situations connected with gangs anyways. I decided to leave my country behind and join some of my family in Arkansas. Yet still, the threats followed me. In order to keep my family at home safe I continued to stay in contact and cooperate with gang leaders back home ultimately leading to my arrest. From there I began an education in survival unlike any other I had experienced before. They say that only the strongest survive in jail, the strongest haven’t been inside the walls of the detention center. As someone who’s been given little choice in life it's difficult to think about second chances. Often second chances aren’t possible for stories like mine. I am Rudy Mancilla Espinosa and I am not the circumstances that led to my detention. I am a father, a son, a unique individual, and I am worthy of freedom.”
