The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the largest sporting event in North America’s history, played across an entire continent for the first time. This moment can’t belong to the people– the fans, families, and whole communities who make fútbol beautiful– if they are forced to live in fear, targeted by surveillance, and excluded by cruel policies that threaten their existence. Right now, the Trump administration is actively endangering the safety of immigrant communities and undermining the chance for all fans to take part in this historic moment. By escalating reckless ICE operations targeting immigrant workers and communities and imposing a racist, unjust travel ban on Haiti, Iran, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal, this administration is turning what should be a moment of joy and connection into one of fear and exclusion.  These policies go directly against the spirit of the game behind the World Cup, a game that belongs to the people.
